Job Roles & Description

                              Job Roles in the Creative Media Arts Scene

Director – A director in the creative media arts scene does a lot of things and in a lot of different genres. Such as a creative video game director would have the responsibility to design, visualise and control the game. A creative director is ultimately responsible for the quality of the final product, like a dance director will tell the artist what to do, and how to do it, like what kind of dance moves.


Make-up Artist- A make-up artist has to polish or the act that is about to perform, they will decide whether they would need lipstick, eyeliner or a facial. They will also give the act a bit of a haircut. The job role is to make the artist look good looking and attractive something that the crowd won’t take there eyes off. They are also responsible for what they look like in a photo shoot.


Fashion Designer – They chose what the act has to wear to make them look trendy and make them look good. They tailor the acts clothes measure them up and make them a suit, dress or casual clothes. They also choose what the act has to wear on a photo shoot and they listen to the director if he wants to change the costume a little bit. They add the glitter and sparkles in to performances.


Freelance Photographer – A freelance photographer is someone that works for himself they don’t work for a company or any business they go to one place to another. For example they will go to the Birmingham Hippodrome and watch Shakespeare’s version of Romeo and Juliet then the next day they will go to the NIA or NEC and they will go and takes there photographs. Then after they have finished for the week they will sell there photographs to newspapers, magazines and even to a TV company.

Stage Director – A stage director will work with the acts and help them developing the stage and putting them in to positions on stage and helping them work in bits of action. They also work with lighting effects to make the stage look better and create a theme. They also work with the Costume designer is well telling them what to make. He also works with the set design to make a good looking background.

Script Writer – This person writes the story whether it is on the big screen (Films) or just a normal documentary (TV). He decides what the scene should be the language used the time and setting of the programme. He also decides the characters that are going to be involved; they also have the big role of the story-line so the programme will get the views and also the way the dramatic ending happens. Such as Eastenders when there programme ends there is a huge scene at the end and the credits come on, so the viewer will have to watch the programme the next day to see the climax of the episode.

Cameraman – There job is crucial of the programme because if there is one bad move in the camera work, they will have to shoot the same scene again and again until the director is happy with the shot. There are many different types of shots such as long -shot, mid-shot, close-up and extreme close-up. In the episode of The Bill there was huge pressure on the camera man , because he had to film a two minute hand held camera scene, and it took them a lot of time just to perfect it , and also there car chases and robbery chases were all hand held. Also the camera work was great so it made it better.

Choreographer – This person has a lot of talent inside and he must try a pass it on to the act that will perform. Choreographers are always dancers so they teach a classroom of how to dance until they perfect it. They are also responsible of how long it takes them to learn, if they think they are not capable he will have to tell the Director to move the person out and add a new one. When the performer is by him self with the Choreographer, the Choreographer teach them privately so they can perfect it.
